Happy #MakersWednesday, everyone!

This week I’ve got a finished skein of handspun yarn to share, in what feels like forever since the last time I spun!

For a while there, I just wasn’t in the mood to use my spinning wheel. I enjoy spinning, but I also enjoy knitting, and quilting, and and and … you get the idea. I’ve got a lot of creative hobbies. There are just only so many hours in the day to do them all, and sometimes I just get more in the mood to do one hobby than another.

Lately I’ve been trying not to just accumulate yarn for the sake of it, but rather to only buy yarn if it’s special, unique, or if I have a project in mind for it already. So the same principle applies to my handspun – I don’t want to spin it all up just to have it sit on a shelf, so I haven’t felt inspired to spin any yarn lately.

Sometimes all it takes to kick your inspiration into high gear is to have a purpose – and for me, that purpose came in the form of a swap on Ravelry. The swap theme was cartoons, and after reading about my swap recipient I decided to base her package around the show Adventure Time. She said she’d never tried handspun before and might like to try it, so I thought I’d spin up a yarn inspired by a character.

My recipient likes purple and green, so I chose the character Bufo as my inspiration –

Bufo is a wizard frog with tiny tadpoles living inside his chin.

And this is the yarn I spun, from a combination of smaller samples I had in my stash:
